June 1, 2004
Dear Conference Participants,
I would like to join the Heritage Foundation, the Center for Freedom and Prosperity, and the Friedrich Naumann Stiftung in welcoming you to the June 2, 2004, Tax Competition
Conference.
As you may know, tax competition has strong support in the United States House of Representatives. Events like this conference help generate the research that we need to further expand that
support and promote lower tax rates and fiscal reform.
High-tax nations worried that jobs and capital are shifting to lower-tax jurisdictions should lower their tax rates – not encourage others to raise
theirs. The economic growth that is the result of effective tax competition creates jobs and additional resources for priorities such as education and health care. Tax competition raises standards of living
and respects the sovereign rights of all nations to establish their own policy priorities.
Enjoy your conference. The speakers are among the best in the world, and the topics are timely and interesting.
Sincerely,
Christopher Cox Chairman
