Dear Conference Participants,
I would like to join with the Heritage Foundation, the Center for Freedom and Prosperity, and the Friedrich Naumann Stiftung in welcoming you to the June 2nd
Tax Competition conference. Along with many of my Senate colleagues, I am a strong supporter of tax competition. Tax competition is a liberalizing force in today's economy. It encourages lawmakers around the world
to lower tax rates and reduce the double-taxation of savings and investment. These policies lead to stronger growth and more job creation, as America's economic expansion illustrates.
Tax harmonization, by
contrast, is the wrong approach. High-tax governments should not export their bad policy to other nations. All jurisdictions should have the sovereign right to pursue growth-maximizing tax policy.
You have an
exciting conference agenda, and I have asked to receive copies of the presentations. I look forward to working with the President and my colleagues to ensure that tax competition is allowed to flourish.
Sincerely,
James M. Inhofe United States Senator
